Last week Justin and I had a BLAST with all of our LYON-SHOP attendees at The Shade Hotel in Manhattan Beach, California! This was a fun group and the day went by so fast with so much to say, teach, show, and shoot! At the end of the day we felt super grateful to everyone who took time out of their busy lives to come and learn from us. We hope that those in attendance were able to take back something from our LYON-SHOP to better their photography business/techniques and ultimately become successful!

We held two shoots that day, the first shoot concentrated on working with and posing your client, use of available light, and use of certain lenses for certain situations.

After the first shoot was over we went through post processing, workflow, how to create actions, blogging, and marketing. The second shoot was definitely my favorite part of the day. We demonstrated how to capture lens-flare, off camera lighting, multiply off camera lighting set ups, reviewed camera settings, and more posing.
Here are all of the attendees, a special thank you goes out to all of them for a very successful day!
Here are some shots that a few of our attendees sent to us of behind the scenes. This first set comes from Quincy of Rock The Image, I especially love what he wrote about the LYON-SHOP on his blog, so be sure to stop by there:

This next set comes from the fab duo team of Paco + Betty from San Francisco:
Before I show the recap, we are holding another LYON-SHOP (Part Quatre!) in Las Vegas on March 6th, just before the big WPPI Convention and we STILL HAVE A SMALL AMOUNT OF SEATS AVAILABLE!!! So if you are wanting to attend, hop on it fast and email amelia@amelialyon.com asap and I'll let you know how you can go about reserving your seat for that day!
The Shade Hotel was very accommodating and it was the perfect place for us to hold our group.
*Thank you to the lovely Jenn & handsome Will for being our models that day!

amelia, i would love to know what lens you use to get super duper close to your couples.... i.e. the ahhhmazing black & white shot (#4 from the top). i find that my 50 1.2 doesn't always get as close as i'd like. :)

Mary, that photo was most likely shot with the 35mm 1.4...it's a fabulous lens and you'd be surprised at how close you can get to your subject with it!

Jennifer + Sebastien wedding is #3 out of the last four weddings to blog from 2009 and its a good one:). Of course it was an amazing day, how could anyone go wrong with a wedding set in Maui?! Jenn + Seb were married on November 10th of 2009 at lovely house off the shore of Kihei in Maui. Justin and I were particularly looking forward to their wedding because we ended up making a vacation out of it and stayed for six days! This was my first time to Hawaii so I was giddy the entire time!
On top of sharing such a wonderful day with Jenn + Seb, we had the best sky to work with as a backdrop and the ENTIRE group in attendance at this wedding were the sweetest, most loving friends and family one could ever meet! This was such a good day all around!
What a great first trip to Hawaii...Maui was certainly my favorite! Thank you to Jenn + Seb for having us out, you two are beautiful! Click here to see their online slideshow!

Melissa + Bryan's wedding is #2 out of the last four weddings of 2009 and I am BEYOND excited to show this one off! They were married on October 24th, 2009 and held the entire event at Rancho Las Lomas in Silverado, California. We immediately fell in love with this location, there was so much to work with, we sort of had a creative flow overload! On top of such a rad location, we had Melissa + Bryan to work with, all of their amazing wedding details, and some of the best wedding vendors in the industry behind this amazing day (we'll be mentioning these vendors below)!
My favorite item of the day...the dessert station (that can count as one item...right?!)! The Sweet & Saucy Shop seriously makes the BEST cakes, cupcakes, and devilish desserts we have ever tasted! We're hoping we get to work with them many more times in the upcoming year!
Melissa + Bryan's wedding was fun, funky, colorful, and romantic all rolled into one! So, without further ado we present to you the newly married Mr. & Mrs. Bryan Huber!
Wow, what a sweet day! Thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Huber for having us out! Click here to see their online slideshow!

I had never been to Tennessee/Mississippi until December of 2009! Justin and I were hired to fly to mid-USA to photograph the ever talented husband and wife team that make up Allison Rodgers Photography. I was very excited to meet both Allison + Jeff after hearing the fun stories from Justin when he met them at Imaging USA last year in Arizona.
The Rodgers needed their photos taken because they will soon be going on tour with PPA around the country, teaching and inspiring hundreds of other photographers along their way. I'm not going to lie, I was VERY surprised that they wanted us to photograph them and I was that much more intimidated once we got into town and toured their amazing studio. These people really know what they are doing, and it was great to see how a different studio across the country runs their photography biz. Despite my nerves, Justin and I were glad and excited to do them the honors!
Of course we had to take advantage of the the twiggy trees...I have a slight obsession with this sort of setting (maybe it's because we don't get to see much of this here in SoCal).
Thank you to Allison & Jeff for having us out! I had a great time visiting Tennessee/Mississippi, even though it was only for a day and a half. PLUS, I got to try fried pickles for the first time and I have to say that they are delish!
We're also very excited to be new members of the highly recognized photography organization known as PPA!
